4 months!

Miss Nugget is 4 months old! Here are her stats from the doctor's visit today. (Too bad the doctor's visit also included shots...yuck!)

Height: 24.25 inches (50%)
Weight: 11 lbs 10 oz (20%)
Head: 15.75 inches (25%)

So wonderful to see her growing up as normally as a term baby :).

Anniversary Number One

That's right...one year ago yesterday, Daniel and I were married! It is crazy to think how much has happened in the past year. We were married, we moved (well I moved) to Colorado, got pregnant, spent the next 8 months learning how to handle severe nausea, had a beautiful little preemie, spent a month driving to and from the hospital, moved to a new apartment and finally started to get a little settled in with things :). We have had a wonderful celebration. We went up to the mountains Saturday and partook in our family's very first hike. Nugget was a little worn out by about halfway through. Then, yesterday Daniel and I went out to eat at a really fun little place called the Vesta Dipping Grill. We got to try all kinds of new things and topped it off with a lovely heavenly piece of fudge cake topped with bourbon ganache (and of course dipping sauces of cream, hot fudge and strawberry). And even more excellent? Daniel ended up getting Labor day off!! He was set to work but his bosses were taking the day off - so they gave him the day off as well! Someday soon I'd love to tell you all about our wedding day... but I need to pump and get some more work done!

Thursday's Three Small Successes

My three successes this week?

#1 Getting out there a little more:

(1) Joining MOPs (a mother's group help at our church). I know this seems like a silly "success," but being the introvert that I am, I tend to stick to home, and well... home. It's been hard making the transition to not being in college where all my best friends are literally a 5 second to 5 minute walk away. However, I babysat for this group during my pregnancy and decided joining would be a good way to get out and about and meet other mommies (or visit with a couple I already know).

(2) Luckily, my husband works at a really awesome place (The Fellowship of Catholic University Students, a Catholic campus outreach program) where young adults abound - so I have met some really awesome people through his work, and now that I'm not experiencing "all day sickness" all the time and we're a little more settled in with little Nugget, I'm looking forward to inviting people over, (maybe) being invited places... to all that good stuff.

(3) I went to my women's group without my buddy. I had always gone with a lovely friend I met through my husband (she sits next to him at work), but she had plans last night. Still... I decided I couldn't complain about not having adult interaction if I turned down perfectly good opportunities. And, lo and behold it was really wonderful :). The women in our group are incredibly sweet and we had some great discussion on a piece Edith Stein had written on women's strength. I also learned a little more about Edith Stein, the Saint...which was sweet.

#2 Tried (tried being the operative word) to work on a flaw

This particular flaw is one I struggle with over and over. I tend to take the silliest things personally... especially things that were in no way connected to me. It's as if I believe that someone doing something fun with someone else means they didn't want to do it with me. Ridiculous, I know... but there you have it. So, this week I worked on taking things like that less personally. I think it's going well - I'll let you know :).

#3 Prepared for baby Nugget's switch to 3-6 month clothes

As our little nugget grows (and grows), we've realized we're at a bit of a dilemma. She is super long (even if she wasn't a preemie, she's in the 50 - 75th percentile for her height at her age), but still pretty skinny (5th percentile if she wasn't a preemie). Now, she's definitely chubby for a little preemie, but her body fits 0-3 months while her length is creeping into the 3-6 month clothes. So, I got out all of her clothes, sorted them, and washed her 3-6 in preparation for the inevitable switch... oh, my little one! Growing up :).

dun dun dun dun! There you have it.

Oh, wait! There's another one! I also finished the wedding I was editing! Now on to a rockin' senior shoot and then a whole new round of things on our big trips to KS.

Summer Food Lovin'

Since my family came last, we have had a wonderful bounty of garden fresh veggies :). They brought tomatoes, garlic, potatoes, onion and peppers (oh and one delectable jar of homemade peach jam). I've been enjoying trying to make yummy but a little healthier meals. We eat a lot of rice, potatoes and pasta sauteed in tomatoes, onion and garlic... yummy! I made some lovely chicken salad sandwiches the other day and just thought everything looked so summery between those, the raspberry lemonade and the gorgeous flowers my hubby surprised me with when he came home from work that day!

3 months!

Little Nugget is officially 3 months old! She has had quite the last month. She went to her first (3) wedding(s), her first family reunion, and has had quite the array of visitors!

The reunion was also my first and lived up to everything Daniel had told me. The Volks are truly a family of pig, polka and more pork :). They are also wonderfully welcoming and have great senses of humor! I love being a part of another happy family :). I am so blessed! I had a great time taking lots and lots of pictures (you can see them all here if you're interested) and watching all of the silly games (lots of the first day was spend competing in the different games from "Minutes to Win-It." Our little squeaker was much admired and loved by all.

Also, my sister and her family visited - it was so hectic and happy! Her children are energetic and completely loving to Anni. Even little Mr. Bear Cub (formerly known as "Q") held her hand and worked hard to make her smile. They're going to be best friends...I know it! The two girls kept me company when I pumped and the younger of the two often stroked Nugget's head when she cried and said, "No, no. It's ok, don't cry." She also informed me after a bout of delighted smiling and squealing that Nugget loves her. Melt my heart :). The last day they were here, my mother and baby brother came out to stay until Saturday. It was so wonderful to see so much of my family! Having recently had two bouts of mastitis meant I was pretty worn down - so this gave me a chance to catch a little bit of a breath. Also, these two visits meant that our apartment looks much more like a home than ever and little Nugget's room looks a lot more like a baby's room!
